About this event

With this two day course, take your handgun shooting to the next level by mastering the use of a Red Dot Sight (RDS). This course is designed for all shooters who want to gain a tactical advantage in both defensive and recreational shooting scenarios. Whether you are new to red dots or looking to refine your skills, this class will teach you how to efficiently acquire and engage targets at varying distances while maximizing the speed and accuracy that red dots offer. Throughout the course, you’ll focus on real-world shooting techniques, from quick target acquisition inclose encounters to precision shots at extended ranges. With a mix of live-fire drills and dry-fire practice methods, you’ll learn how to improve your performance, troubleshoot common issues, and leave with the confidence to effectively use your red dot-equipped pistol in any situation.

  • Zeroing your red dot: 10-yard zero, 25-yard confirmation
  • Ammo selection for best performance
  • Drawing and presenting your pistol without“fishing”for the dot
  • Importance of backup iron sights and how they work with your red dot
  • Using just enough visual information for fast and accurate shooting
  • Engaging close targets with red dots (5 yards and in)
  • Utilizing red dots for long-range accuracy
  • Refining speed and efficiency of draw and presentation
  • Differences between concealed and open carry with red dots
  • Achieving speed through minimal and efficient movement
  • Micro drill training to focus on specific skills
  • Managing dot movement: grip, stance, and dot stability
  • Avoiding over-confirmation of the dot before taking the shot
  • Practical methods for improving through dry fire and live fire practice
  • Target transitions and how to move efficiently between multiple targets
  • Shooting on the move while maintaining dot alignment
  • Troubleshooting common red dot issues and improving performance

Required Equipment:

  • Gear:
  1. Pistol with red dot sight (RDS) installed
  2. Backup iron sights (recommended)
  3. Minimum of 3 magazines and a magazine pouch
  4. Holster compatible with your RDS-equipped pistol (with retention)
  5. Appropriate range belt or setup for carrying equipment
  • Ammunition:
  1. 500 rounds for your pistol
  • Additional Gear:
  1. Eye and ear protection (mandatory)
  2. Cleaning kit and gun lubricant
  3. Notepad and pen for notes
  4. Water and snacks for hydration and energy

Course Prerequisites:

  • No prior red dot experience required, but basic handgun proficiency and safe weapon handling skills are recommended.
